Are We Mere Receivers or True Witnesses?

Luke 17:11-19, challenges us to look beyond receiving God's gifts and embrace the call to profound gratitude and public witness.

Core Points of Reflection

 The Nature of the Miracle: Ten lepers, alienated from society, cried out to Jesus and were commanded to show themselves to the priests. They were healed on the way, confirming that their initial faith and obedience were rewarded with a physical cure. They all received the gift.

  The Question of Ingratitude: Jesus' painful question, "Were not all ten made whole? Where are the other nine? Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks and praise to God?" cuts to the heart of our spiritual practice. The nine failed because they focused only on the completion of their need (the cure) and not the person of the Giver (Jesus). They were receivers who were spiritually blind.

  The Call to Witness (The Samaritan): Only the Samaritan—an outsider—returned. He did more than just say thank you; he "glorified God in a loud voice" (v. 15), becoming a public witness. His act of returning was an act of worship and profound gratitude that validated his cure.

Healing vs. Salvation: The nine received physical healing (their need was met). The one Samaritan received something greater: "Your faith has saved you." (v. 19). The Greek word used here (sesōken) means "saved" or "made whole." His gratitude transformed his physical cure into spiritual wholeness and salvation.

Finally, Our Christian life should not be limited to merely receiving God's blessings. Every blessing—health, food, life itself—is a gift. We are called to be like the one Samaritan, not the forgetful nine. Our response must be a life that returns to the G Giver in worship and gratitude, thereby transforming our physical blessings into eternal salvation and serving as a compelling witness to the world.

இந்த ஒன்பது பேரும் சான்றிதழ் பெற்றனர். அவர்கள் நோய் நீங்கியதால் கிடைத்த சுதந்திரத்தைக் கொண்டாட விரைந்து சென்றனர். ஆனால், அவர்கள் சான்று பகரத் தவறிவிட்டனர். அவர்கள் தேவையைப் பூர்த்தி செய்த கொடையாளரைக் குறித்து மறந்தனர்.

நாம் ஒவ்வொருவரும் அன்றாட வாழ்வில் எண்ணற்ற ஆசீர்வாதங்களைப் பெறுகிறோம். நாமும் அந்த ஒன்பது பேரைப் போல, நம் தேவைகள் நிறைவேறியவுடன், நாம் பெற்ற ஆசீர்வாதங்களைப் பயன்படுத்திக் கொண்டு, ஆண்டவரை மறந்து, அடுத்த காரியத்தில் கவனம் செலுத்துகிறோமா?
