பொதுக்காலத்தின் 33ஆம் ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை

சோம்பல் தவிர்த்து, மன உறுதியோடு காத்திருப்போம்!

வாசகங்கள்: மலாக்கி 4:1-2a; திபா 98; 2 தெசலோனிக்கர் 3:7-12; லூக்கா 21:5-19

முடிவு நெருங்கும்போது, எப்படி வாழ வேண்டும்?

இன்று திருச்சபைத் திருவழிபாட்டு ஆண்டின் இறுதி வாரங்களை நெருங்கிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறோம். எனவே, இன்றைய வாசகங்கள் இயேசுவின் இறுதி வருகை, உலகத்தின் முடிவு, மற்றும் நியாயத்தீர்ப்பு ஆகியவற்றை மையப்படுத்துகின்றன. முடிவு வரும்போது நாம் பயந்து நடுங்குவதற்குப் பதிலாக, எப்படி விழிப்புடனும் உறுதியுடனும் வாழ வேண்டும் என்பதே இந்த ஞாயிறு நமக்குக் கற்பிக்கும் பாடம்.

1. நீதியின் கதிரவன் (முதல் வாசகம்)

இறைவாக்கினர் மலாக்கி நமக்கு ஒரு முக்கிய உண்மையைச் சொல்கிறார்: ஆண்டவரின் வருகை என்பது அனைவருக்கும் ஒரே மாதிரியாக இருக்காது.

 ஆணவக்காரர், கொடுமை செய்வோர் ஆகியோருக்கு, அது சூளையைப் போல் எரியும் நாள் – அதாவது நியாயத்தீர்ப்பு நாள்.

 ஆனால், ஆண்டவரின் பெயருக்கு அஞ்சி நடக்கின்றவர்களுக்கு, அது நீதியின் கதிரவன் உதிக்கும் நாள். அவருடைய இறக்கைகளில் நலம் தரும் மருந்து இருக்கும்.

இறுதி நாளுக்கான நமது தயாரிப்பு என்பது நம் வாழ்வின் தேர்வுகளில் உள்ளது. நாம் ஆணவத்துடனும், கொடுமையுடனும் வாழ்கிறோமா? அல்லது நீதியின் கதிரவனை எதிர்நோக்கி, நேர்மையுடனும், அன்புறவுடனும் வாழ்கிறோமா? கடவுளின் நீதி நம்மை அழிப்பதற்காக அல்ல; நீதியுள்ளோருக்கு ஆறுதல் அளிப்பதற்காக வருகிறது. எனவே, நீதியுள்ள வாழ்வை வாழ்வதன் மூலம் நாம் நம்பிக்கையோடு காத்திருக்க அழைக்கப்படுகிறோம்.

2. உழைப்பே நமது சான்று (இரண்டாம் வாசகம்)

இறுதி நாள் நெருங்கிவிட்டது என்ற எதிர்பார்ப்பு, சில விசுவாசிகளுக்கு தவறான புரிதலைத் தந்தது. அவர்கள் வேலை செய்வதை நிறுத்திவிட்டு, சோம்பேறிகளாகவும், பிறர் வேலையில் தலையிடுபவர்களாகவும் மாறினர். இதைக் கண்ட புனித பவுல் தெசலோனிக்கருக்கு உறுதியான கட்டளை இடுகிறார்.

 "உழைக்க மனமில்லாத எவரும் உண்ணலாகாது" என்ற கடுமையான வார்த்தைகளை அவர் பயன்படுத்துகிறார்.

கடவுளுடைய வருகை நெருங்கிவிட்டது என்பதற்காக நாம் நம்முடைய கடமைகளிலிருந்து விலக முடியாது. கிறிஸ்தவ வாழ்க்கை என்பது செயலில் உள்ள நம்பிக்கை. நாம் ஒவ்வொருவரும் கடினமாக, ஒழுங்காக உழைத்து, நமது உணவுக்காக உழைக்க வேண்டும் என்று பவுல் வலியுறுத்துகிறார். சோம்பேறித்தனமும், சும்மா திரிவதும் கிறிஸ்தவ வாழ்க்கை அல்ல. நம் ஒவ்வொருவரின் உழைப்பு, நம்மைச் சுற்றியுள்ள சமூகத்திற்கு நாம் அளிக்கும் பங்களிப்பாகும். ஆண்டவருக்காகக் காத்திருக்கும் வேளையில், நாம் உழைக்கும் விதம், நமது பொறுப்புணர்வும் நம்பிக்கையும் நிறைந்த சாட்சியாக இருக்க வேண்டும்.

3. மன உறுதியே நமது வெற்றி (நற்செய்தி)

இயேசுவின் நற்செய்திப் பகுதி, உலகத்தின் இறுதிக் காலத்தைப் பற்றிய அவருடைய மிக முக்கியமான அறிவுரைகளைக் கொண்டுள்ளது. எருசலேம் கோவில் இடிக்கப்படும் என்ற அறிவிப்பு முதல், உலகளாவிய போர்கள், நிலநடுக்கங்கள், கொள்ளைநோய்கள் மற்றும் நமக்கு வரப்போகும் துன்புறுத்தல்கள் வரை அனைத்தையும் பற்றி அவர் பேசுகிறார்.

இயேசுவின் இந்தச் செய்தியின் நோக்கம் நம்மை அச்சுறுத்துவதல்ல, மாறாக இரண்டு வழிகளில் நமக்கு உறுதி அளிப்பதாகும்:

அ. நாவன்மையும் ஞானமும்: நீங்கள் பிடித்து இழுத்துச் செல்லப்படும்போது, "என்ன பதில் அளிப்பது என முன்னதாகவே நீங்கள் கவலைப்பட வேண்டாம். நானே உங்களுக்கு நாவன்மையையும் ஞானத்தையும் கொடுப்பேன்" என்கிறார். நமது துன்புறுத்தல், இயேசுவுக்குச் சான்று பகர ஒரு வாய்ப்பாக மாறும்.

ஆ. மன உறுதியோடு இருத்தல்: இதோ, மிக முக்கியமான கட்டளை: "நீங்கள் மன உறுதியோடு இருந்து உங்கள் வாழ்வைக் காத்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள்."

 புறம்பான அறிகுறிகளைக் கண்டு அஞ்சாமல், நம்முடைய உள்ளார்ந்த ஆன்மீக வாழ்வில் உறுதியாக நிற்பதே உண்மையான விழிப்புணர்வு.

 "உங்கள் தலைமுடி ஒன்றுகூட விழவே விழாது" என்ற இயேசுவின் வாக்குறுதி, அவருடைய முழுமையான பாதுகாப்பிற்கு உத்தரவாதம் அளிக்கிறது. நமது உடல் தற்காலிகமாகப் பாதிக்கப்படலாம், ஆனால் நம்முடைய நித்திய வாழ்வு பாதுகாக்கப்படும்.

முடிவு வரும்போது நாம் செய்ய வேண்டியதெல்லாம், மன உறுதியோடு இருப்பது, உண்மையுள்ள உழைப்பாளியாக இருப்பது, மற்றும் இயேசுவுக்குச் சான்று பகர்வதுமேயாகும்.

முடிவுரை

அன்புக்குரிய சகோதர சகோதரிகளே,

பொதுக்காலத்தின் இந்த 33ஆம் ஞாயிறு நமக்கு விடுக்கும் அழைப்பு தெளிவானது:

நேர்மையுடன் உழைப்போம்

சோம்பலைத் தவிர்த்து, நமது அன்றாடக் கடமைகளில் உண்மையோடும் பொறுப்புடனும் செயல்படுவோம்.

உறுதியுடன் சான்று பகர்வோம்

 உலகத்தின் குழப்பங்கள், அச்சங்கள், துன்புறுத்தல்கள் ஆகியவற்றுக்கு நடுவே, இயேசுவின் மீதுள்ள நமது நம்பிக்கையைத் தைரியமாக வெளிப்படுத்துவோம்.

நீதியின் கதிரவன் உதிக்கும் அந்த நாளுக்காகக் காத்திருந்து, "வாழ்வோரின் நாட்டினிலே ஆண்டவரின் நலன்களைக் காண்பேன்" என்ற நம்பிக்கையை நம் இதயத்தில் உறுதியாகப் பற்றிக்கொள்வோம்.

Perseverance: The Christian’s Survival Guide to the End Times

Readings: Malachi 4:1-2a; Psalm 98; 2 Thessalonians 3:7-12; Luke 21:5-19

1. The Challenge of the ‘Meantime’

As we draw near to the end of the liturgical year, the Church directs our focus toward the ultimate truths: the coming of Christ, the judgment, and the final state of the world. The readings today do not call us to panic or idleness; they call us to perseverance, vigilance, and productive living in the “meantime” the time between Christ's first coming and his glorious return.

2. The Sun of Justice and the Furnace (Malachi & Psalm)

The prophet Malachi paints a dramatic picture of the "day" of the Lord. It will be a day of absolute justice, but experienced in two contrasting ways:

For the arrogant and evildoers, it will be a furnace—a day of total burning and destruction.

 For those who revere God’s name, the Sun of Justice will rise, with healing in its rays.

The Responsorial Psalm echoes this, celebrating the Lord who "comes to rule the earth with justice." We are called to live now in a way that allows us to greet the Sun of Justice with hope, rather than fear the consuming fire. Our preparation is not in spectacular deeds, but in choosing justice and reverence in our daily lives.

3. No Time for Idleness (Second Reading)

St. Paul addresses a very practical problem in the community at Thessalonica: some members, anticipating the imminent return of Christ, had stopped working and become idle busybodies. Paul’s response is sharp and direct:

"If anyone is unwilling to work, neither should that one eat."

This is a vital lesson for every generation. Hope in the future does not justify irresponsibility in the present. The Christian faith is active. We are called to live orderly, productive lives, working quietly to earn our own keep. Our work is not merely a secular necessity; it is a spiritual discipline and a way of participating in God’s ongoing creation. We are to be found diligently working when the Lord returns.

4. Perseverance in the Face of Collapse (Gospel)

The Gospel reading features Jesus predicting the destruction of the Temple (the symbol of Israel’s eternal security) and listing terrifying signs of the end times: wars, earthquakes, famines, and persecutions.

Jesus gives two essential instructions to His disciples:

 Be Vigilant (Do not be misled): "See that you are not deceived; for many will come in my name... Do not follow them." We must anchor our hope in Christ alone, not in false prophets or worldly alarms.

Be Steadfast (Perseverance): When persecution comes—when family, friends, and authorities turn against you—Jesus assures us: "I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute." More importantly, He concludes: "By your perseverance you will secure your lives."

Persecution is framed as an opportunity for testimony. The ultimate goal is not to escape suffering, but to endure it faithfully. We secure our eternal lives not by physical escape, but by spiritual perseverance. Though our hair may be counted and our earthly life may be threatened, our soul is ultimately protected by God.

Conclusion

On this Sunday, as the liturgical year draws to a close, we are called to be prepared for the ultimate encounter with the Lord.

Let us prepare not by passive waiting, but by:

 Active Labor: Fulfilling our duties with discipline and dignity.

Courageous Perseverance: Standing firm in our faith amidst confusion and trial.

Let our work and our endurance be our testimony, so that on that Great Day, we may greet the rising Sun of Justice and secure our everlasting life. Amen.
