தவக்காலம் இரண்டாம் ஞாயிறு 

அழைப்பும் மாற்றமும்: மகிமையை நோக்கி ஒரு பயணம்

தவக்காலத்தின் முதல் ஞாயிறு 'சோதனைகளை' பற்றிச் சிந்தித்தோம். இரண்டாம் ஞாயிறு 'மகிமையைப்' பற்றிச் சிந்திக்கிறோம். இன்றைய வாசகங்கள் நம்மை ஒரு பயணத்திற்கு அழைக்கின்றன: ஆபிரகாமைப் போல நம்பிக்கையுடன் புறப்படவும், இயேசுவைப் போல உருமாற்றம் அடையவும் நாம் அழைக்கப்படுகிறோம்.

அ) ஆபிரகாமின் கீழ்ப்படிதல் (முதல் வாசகம்)

ஆண்டவர் ஆபிரகாமை நோக்கி, "புறப்பட்டுச் செல்" என்கிறார்.

அறியாத பயணம்: எங்கே போகிறோம் என்று தெரியாமலேயே, கடவுளின் வார்த்தையை மட்டும் நம்பி ஆபிரகாம் தன் நாடு, இனம், தந்தை வீடு அனைத்தையும் விட்டுப் புறப்படுகிறார்.

ஆசியின் ஊற்று: ஆபிரகாம் கடவுளுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிந்ததால், அவர் ஒரு பெரிய இனத்தின் தந்தையானார். நம்முடைய விசுவாசப் பயணம் சில நேரங்களில் கடினமாகத் தோன்றினாலும், அது ஆசியில் முடியும் என்பதற்கு ஆபிரகாம் ஒரு சிறந்த உதாரணம்.

ஆ) தூய அழைப்பு (இரண்டாம் வாசகம்)

புனித பவுல் திமொத்தேயுவுக்கு எழுதிய கடிதத்தில், நம்முடைய மீட்பு நமது செயல்களால் அல்ல, கடவுளின் அருளால் கிடைத்தது என்கிறார்.

துன்பத்தில் பங்கு: நற்செய்திக்காகத் துன்பப்படுவதைத் தகுதியாகக் கருத வேண்டும்.

சாவிற்கு அழிவு: கிறிஸ்து சாவை அழித்து, அழியா வாழ்வை நமக்கு ஒளிரச் செய்துள்ளார். இந்த நம்பிக்கையே நம் பயணத்திற்கு வலுசேர்க்கிறது.

இ) இயேசுவின் உருமாற்றம் (நற்செய்தி)

தாபோர் மலையில் இயேசு தன் மாட்சியைச் சீடர்களுக்கு வெளிப்படுத்துகிறார்.

மகிமையின் காட்சி: இயேசுவின் முகம் கதிரவனைப் போல் ஒளிர்கிறது. இது அவர் இறைமகன் என்பதற்கான அடையாளம். மோசேயும் (சட்டம்), எலியாவும் (இறைவாக்கு) அவரோடு உரையாடுவது, இயேசுவே பழைய ஏற்பாட்டின் நிறைவு என்பதைக் காட்டுகிறது.

தந்தையின் சான்று: "இவருக்குச் செவிசாயுங்கள்" - இதுவே தந்தை நமக்குத் தரும் கட்டளை.

மலையிலிருந்து இறங்குதல்: பேதுரு அங்கேயே கூடாரம் அடித்துத் தங்க விரும்பினார். ஆனால், மகிமை என்பது மலையில் தங்குவதற்கல்ல, மலையிலிருந்து இறங்கி சிலுவைப் பாதையில் (கீழே உள்ள மக்களுடன்) பயணிப்பதற்கே என்பதை இயேசு உணர்த்துகிறார்.

Call and Transformation: A Journey Toward Glory

On the first Sunday of Lent, we reflected on 'Temptation.' On this second Sunday, we focus on 'Glory.' Today’s readings invite us to a journey of faith: to set out like Abraham and to be transformed like Jesus.

A. The Faith of Abraham (First Reading)

God tells Abram, "Go forth from the land of your kinsfolk."

A Leap of Faith: Without knowing the destination, Abram leaves his security based solely on God's promise.

A Blessing to Nations: Because of his obedience, Abram becomes a source of blessing. Lent is a time for us to "leave behind" our sinful habits and set out toward the land God shows us.

B. Called to Holiness (Second Reading)

St. Paul reminds Timothy that our salvation is a gift of grace, not a result of our own merit.

Sharing in Suffering: We are called to bear our share of hardship for the Gospel, supported by the power of God.

Light of Immortality: Christ has destroyed death and brought life to light. This eternal perspective gives us courage during the penance of Lent.

C. The Transfiguration (Gospel)

On Mount Tabor, Jesus reveals His divine glory to Peter, James, and John.

A Glimpse of Heaven: His face shines like the sun. The presence of Moses (the Law) and Elijah (the Prophets) confirms that Jesus is the fulfillment of all scripture.

The Father's Voice: "Listen to Him." This is the core message of Lent—to tune our ears away from the world and toward the voice of Jesus.

Descending the Mountain: Peter wanted to stay in the moment (build tents). But Jesus leads them back down. Glory is meant to strengthen us for the journey toward the Cross, not to escape from it.

Second Sunday of Lent

The Butterfly and the Dragonfly: Embracing Holy Metamorphosis

I. The Chaos at the Bottom of the Hill

There is a famous, massive painting by Raphael of the Transfiguration that hangs in the Vatican. It is twelve feet tall because it shows us two different worlds at once. At the top, Jesus is floating in a brilliant, airy light, talking with Moses and Elijah. But at the bottom, there is absolute chaos: a father is desperately trying to get help for his demon-possessed son, while the other disciples are arguing and waving their arms in frenzied confusion.

This is the reality of our lives during Lent. We try to have quiet prayer times, but we are surrounded by the "mud" of daily problems—stress, fear, and broken relationships. The Transfiguration tells us that we cannot understand the light of God without acknowledging the darkness of the world. Christ did not come to escape our problems; He came to save us from them.

II. The "Shameplant" and the Journey Out

In the first reading, God tells Abraham to leave everything familiar—his home, his safety, his country—and go to an unknown land. Faith is Abraham’s response: a blind, trustful obedience to move from the comfort of the past into an uncharted future.

Lent is our opportunity to move like Abraham. We are often like the "shameplant" (or sensitive plant), which folds its leaves and hides its beauty the moment it is touched. Our sins, our fears, and our pride make us fold in on ourselves. God calls us to step out of that hiding spot, to let go of the "old ways" of selfishness, and to walk toward the light of charity and truth.

III. Metamorphosis: Internal Change, External Glory

The word Transfiguration comes from the Greek word metamorphoomai, which biologists use to describe a caterpillar turning into a butterfly—a complete metamorphosis.

Imagine a dragonfly nymph, a grub crawling in the dark, murky mud at the bottom of a pond. It wonders what happens to the nymphs that climb up the lily stem and never return. The nymph that finally reaches the surface molts its old skin and emerges as a beautiful, winged dragonfly. It can now see the bright, sunny world above, but it realizes it can never dive back down into the mud to tell its friends.

This is the promise of our faith: the dark and murky life we live now is not the final stage. The Transfiguration is a "preview" of our own resurrection. It is the "sacrament of the second regeneration," reminding us that our humanity is destined for glory.

IV. The Divine Command: "Listen to Him"

When Peter saw Jesus shining brighter than the sun, he wanted to stay there forever, proposing to build tents to lock in that holy moment. But God’s voice from the cloud didn't say, "Stay here." It said, "This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to Him".

We cannot stay on the mountaintop forever. We must return to the valley, to the "ordinary" work of following Jesus amidst setbacks, failures, and confusion. Listening to Him means taking that glimpse of glory back into our families, our workplaces, and our communities.

Conclusion: Living Transfigured Lives

As we continue through Lent, remember that every Mass is a moment of "transubstantiation" where the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus—a daily transformation available to us.

When you feel stuck in the mud of life, or when you feel like you are folding in on yourself like the shameplant, remember the dragonfly. The cross is not the end of the story; it is the pathway to glory. Let us trust in the grace of Christ, who has abolished death and proclaimed life.

வாழ்விற்கான சிந்தனைகள்

புறப்பட்டுச் செல்லுதல் (Leaving Behind): ஆபிரகாமைப் போல, நாம் எதை விட்டுப் புறப்பட வேண்டும்? நம்முடைய பிடிவாதம், பழைய கசப்புகள், அல்லது இறைவனுக்கு எதிரான பழக்கங்களை விட்டுப் புறப்படத் தயாரா?

இயேசுவுக்குச் செவிசாய்த்தல் (Listening to Him): "இவருக்குச் செவிசாயுங்கள்" என்று தந்தை கூறுகிறார். இந்தத் தவக்காலத்தில் விவிலியம் வாசிப்பதன் மூலமும், அமைதியான செபத்தின் மூலமும் இயேசுவின் குரலைக் கேட்க நேரம் ஒதுக்குவோமா?

உருமாற்றம் (Transformation): இயேசு மலையில் மாறினார். நாமும் இந்தத் தவக்காலத்தில் குணாதிசயங்களில் மாற்றம் பெற வேண்டும். கோபக்காரர் சாந்தமானவராகவும், உலோபி தர்மம் செய்பவராகவும் மாறுவதே உண்மையான உருமாற்றம்.

 அஞ்சாதே (Do Not Be Afraid): சீடர்கள் அஞ்சியபோது இயேசு அவர்களைத் தொட்டு, "எழுந்திருங்கள், அஞ்சாதீர்கள்" என்றார். நம் வாழ்வின் இருண்ட நேரங்களில் இயேசுவின் அந்தத் தொடுதலையும் தேறுதலையும் நாம் உணர வேண்டும்.
